It’s become an annual tradition for the West Michigan Whitecaps to ask fans to choose a new unique food item for the Fifth Third Ballpark menu. This year’s winning food item is the “Baco,” a taco in a specially-made bacon shell. Here’s what it looks like:
Whitecaps fans submitted more than 150 ideas for new food items, and staffers narrowed those down to 10 choices for voters. The Baco was the top vote-getter with 30 percent, edging out “The Bad Joke,” a corn dog topped with cheese and two strips of duck bacon, on a bun. The runner-up received 27 percent of the vote.
You thought the bacon craze was over, didn’t you?
While the Baco is the most unique item being added to the Whitecaps menu this year, it isn’t the only one. All 17 new food items are listed and described here.
It’s worth noting here that the Whitecaps aren’t the only Michigan baseball team making headlines with a new unique food item being offered this year. The Battle Creek Bombers of the Northwoods League are selling Bombers Twinkie Dogs, which will be available in different variations, including this one:
The Bombers play at C.O Brown Stadium, which hosted Midwest League games from 1995 to 2006. I previously wrote about the Battle Creek ballpark in this post.
Personally, I voted for the Bad Joke, but I’ll take a Baco at a ‘Caps game, too. We definitely need to make it to BC for a Twinkie Dog this season
