Lake County Captains outfielder Will Benson and Quad Cities River Bandits RHP Shawn Dubin respectively were named the Midwest League’s offensive player and pitcher of the week for April 15-21.
Benson was probably a slam-dunk choice for the offensive award after his four-homer performance against the South Bend Cubs on Thursday. In the five games he played in the past week, the Cleveland Indians prospect batted .444 (8-for-18) with five homers, one double, 12 runs batted in, and seven runs scored. He is batting .340 with 6 HR and 16 RBI in 13 games this season.
Dubin had his best outing of the season last Monday, limiting the Cedar Rapids Kernels offense to a single hit during his six scoreless innings on the mound. He struck out seven and walked none. The Houston Astros prospect has posted a 0.75 ERA, 19 strikeouts and two saves in his three appearances (two in relief and one start).
