Chicago Cubs LHP Mike Montgomery looked sharp in his rehab start for South Bend on Wednesday.

The Cubs reliever allowed only one hit while striking out four batters and walking none in two innings. South Bend beat the Great Lakes Loons 2-1.

Montgomery is on the injured list with a mild left lat strain. He originally was scheduled to make his rehab appearance on Tuesday, but it got pushed back a day after his wife gave birth to their baby boy in Chicago.

Montgomery previously pitched in the Midwest League as a Kansas City Royals minor-leaguer. He went 2-3 with a 2.17 ERA, 52 strikeouts and 24 walks in 58 innings/12 starts for the 2009 Burlington Bees.
