Though it was already known the South Bend Cubs will host the 2019 Midwest League All-Star Game, an official announcement was made to that effect Monday.
The game will be played at Four Winds Field on Tuesday, June 18. A fan fest will be held at the ballpark on Monday, June 17, featuring a home run derby and an autograph session with Midwest League All-Star players and several former Chicago Cubs players.
“We are thrilled to host the 2019 Midwest League All-Star Game in South Bend,” South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg said during the press conference. “After a 30-year wait, South Bend is proud to once again welcome players and fans alike to our renewed downtown and thriving community.”
The last time South Bend hosted the MWL All-Star Game was 1989, one year after the city received a Midwest League franchise. Burlington Braves third baseman Tom Redington (2-for-4, 1 RBI) was named the game’s MVP. He batted .299 with 17 HR and 52 RBI in 85 games with Burlington that season. His career topped out at Double-A.
