The Kane County Cougars scored eight runs in an inning twice on their way to beating the Burlington Bees 21-6 at Community Field on Thursday.
Everyone in the Cougars lineup drove in at least one run. Renae Martinez went 4-for-5 with two doubles and five RBI. Joey Rose went 3-for-5 with a home run, two doubles, a walk and three RBI. Yoel Yanqui and Tim Susnara each had three hits and one RBI.
Neither starting pitcher fared well in this game. Bees RHP Sam Pastrone pitched to the first seven batters of the game and didn’t record an out. He gave up seven runs (two earned), two hits and three walks. Cougars LHP Mack Lemieux lasted 1.1 innings, during which he gave up six earned runs on six hits and two walks. He threw two wild pitches and didn’t strike out a batter.
The Cougars scored eight runs in the 1st and 4th innings, tacked on runs in the 5th and the 6th innings, and added three more in the 9th. The Bees scored three runs in each of the first two innings.
