Bowling Green Hot Rods LHP Resly Linares and Great Lakes Loons first baseman Nick Yarnall respectively were named the Midwest League’s pitcher and offensive player of the week for April 16-22.
Linares dominated Whitecaps batters in his sole start last week, allowing only two baserunners during seven no-hit innings at West Michigan’s Fifth Third Ballpark. He struck out seven and walked none. (The baserunners reached on a hit batsman and an error.)
Linares looked like a different pitcher than in his first start of the season, on April 10. In that start (also on the road), he gave up seven earned runs on eight hits and three walks in 3.2 innings against the South Bend Cubs.
In five games during the last week, Yarnall batted .500 (11-for-22) with two home runs, eight runs batted in, five runs scored, and one walk. In 11 games this season, he is batting .364 with three homers, two doubles, four walks, nine RBI, and eight runs scored.
