KC’s Herrera suspended 50 games for drug violation

Kane County Cougars catcher Jose Herrera was suspended 50 games Tuesday after testing positive for two banned stimulants.

The Arizona Diamondbacks prospect has played in only one game this season, the nightcap of a doubleheader vs. the Clinton LumberKings on Sunday. He went 0-for-3.

The 21-year-old Venezuela native played 58 games with the Cougars last season, batting .208 with 1 HR and 22 RBI. Behind the plate, he threw out would-be base-stealers 48.6 percent of the time.
