Craig Albernaz will manage the Bowling Green Hot Rods this year instead of Reinaldo Ruiz, the team announced.
Ruiz was slated to return for a fourth season at the helm of the Hot Rods, but the Tampa Bay Rays reassigned him to manage the High-A Charlotte Stone Crabs. Jim Morrison was originally assigned to manage the Stone Crabs, but is taking a medical leave of absence.
The rest of the previously announced coaching staff of the Hot Rods remains the same. You can read about them here.
Albernaz made his managerial debut last year with the short-season Hudson Valley Renegades, who won the New York-Penn League championship title. Earlier in the year, he was the third base coach for the Triple-A Durham Bulls. During the past offseason, he served as a coach for the Perth Heat in the Australian Baseball League.
Albernaz played nine seasons in the minor leagues (eight in Tampa Bay’s farm system), primarily as a catcher.
