Former Burlington Bees first baseman Eric Hosmer reportedly has agreed to an eight-year, $144 million deal with the San Diego Padres.

Thus far, Hosmer has played his entire career for the Kansas City Royals, who picked him third overall in the 2008 draft. He played three-fourths of the 2009 season in the Midwest League, batting .254 with 5 HR and 49 RBI in 79 games with the Burlington Bees. He made his major-league debut for the Royals two years later.

Last season — his seventh in the major leagues — Hosmer batted .318 with 25 HR and 94 RBI in 162 games. He won his fourth Gold Glove and first Silver Slugger award last year.
