Kyle Nowlin homered and drove in three runs to lead the Beloit Snappers to a 7-6 win over the Kane County Cougars at Northwestern Medicine Field on Friday.
In addition to his solo homer in the top of the 4th inning, Nowlin singled home two runs during Beloit’s five-run frame in the 6th inning. Luke Persico added the Snappers’ final run on a solo shot in the top of the 8th inning.
The Cougars rallied for three runs in the bottom of the 8th inning, with two runs scoring on a bases-loaded single by Raymel Flores.
Stephen Smith went 4-for-4 with four singles and a run scored for the Cougars. (Wondering if he shares a full name with the bloviating ESPN personality Stephen A. Smith? Well, wonder no more! The Arizona Diamondbacks prospect’s middle name is James, making him Stephen J. Smith.)
Snappers LHP Zack Erwin got the win, improving to 4-2 with a 1.85 ERA through 12 starts. He gave up three runs (one earned) on nine hits and a walk, and struck out six batters in six innings.
