The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers are getting two new players Wednesday: a top Milwaukee Brewers draft pick and a rehabbing major-leaguer.
Keston Hiura, Milwaukee’s top draft pick this year (No. 9 overall), joins the Timber Rattlers after starting his pro career with a 15-game stint in the rookie-level Arizona League. As the designated hitter in all 15 of those games, he batted .435 (27-for-62) with four homers, five triples, three doubles, six walks, 18 runs batted in, and 18 runs scored.
The Timber Rattlers also get infielder Eric Sogard, who is coming back from a left ankle injury. Prior to getting hurt, he batted .331 with three homers, 12 doubles and 14 RBI in 43 MLB games this season. He is expected to play with the Timber Rattlers on Wednesday and Thursday.
Sogard previously played in the Midwest League as a San Diego Padres prospect in 2007. He batted .253 with 2 HR and 15 RBI in 22 games with the Fort Wayne Wizards.
