Kernels outfielder Jaylin Davis homered three times and drove in four runs in Cedar Rapids’ 7-6 win over the Peoria Chiefs on Tuesday.
All three homers came off Chiefs starter Ian Oxnevad, who overall gave up six earned runs on seven hits and two walks in seven innings. He struck out seven batters.
Facing reliever Austin Sexton in the bottom of the 8th inning, Davis grounded out in his fourth and final at-bat of the game.
Davis now has seven home runs this season, tied for second place in the Midwest League with Lansing Lugnuts infielder Bradley Jones, Wisconsin Timber Rattlers second baseman Tucker Neuhaus and Lake County Captains first baseman Emmanuel Tapia. They trail the league leader, Great Lakes Loons outfielder Carlos Rincon, who has eight homers.
Chiefs second baseman Andy Young went 3-for-4 with a triple and three RBI in Tuesday’s game.
