The Kane County Cougars are offering several new food items at Northwestern Medicine Field this season, including a new signature burger named “El Jefe.”
The El Jefe burger consists of a jalapeño and Monterey Jack cheese-infused burger patty, Ghost Pepper Jack cheese, pork belly, chipotle mac and cheese, pork carnitas, jalapeño straws and a drizzle of honey mustard sauce. El Jefe was available for purchase at Kane County’s home opener last week and will be a regular menu item starting in mid-May at the Burger Cart on the concourse behind home plate.
Also available at the Burger Cart this season is “Grown Up Grilled Cheese,” a fan idea submitted through the offseason “Cooking with the Cougars” social media contest. This version of the classic grilled cheese sandwich adds bacon and tomatoes to the mix.
Another fan-submitted creation available at the concession stands is the “Chicken and Waffle Cone,” which is a crispy waffle cone filled with chicken nuggets coated in waffle batter, served with a side of syrup to drizzle on top or dunk the nuggets in.
The South of the Border Cart offers new street tacos with choice of chicken, carnitas or steak, served with onions and fresh cilantro. Also available at this cart is a taco salad consisting of shredded lettuce, Spanish rice, choice of chicken tinga or ground beef taco meat, black beans, diced onion, tomatoes and sour cream inside a fried tortilla bowl.
The gluten-free cart (located on the third-base concourse) returns with two new items, a gluten-free turkey burger and a gluten-free wrap.
For fans of Raging Cougar Ale (the team’s specialty craft beer created by local Two Brothers Brewing Company and unveiled two years ago), the light-and-hoppy pale ale is now available in cans at the ballpark. If you want to take cans of the beer home, you can purchase six-packs of it at Two Brothers Tap House in Warrenville, Ill., and Two Brothers Roundhouse in Aurora, Ill.
