De La Cruz, Borucki dominate their Thursday starts

South Bend Cubs RHP Oscar De La Cruz and Lansing Lugnuts LHP Ryan Borucki were dominant in their starts Thursday, allowing only one hit in 10 innings between them.

De La Cruz struck out six and walked one, but did not allow a hit in his five innings against the Dayton Dragons. That earned the Chicago Cubs prospect his first win in three Midwest League starts, to go along with a 0.61 ERA (one earned run) and 22 strikeouts in 14.2 innings.

South Bend won the game 7-4.

Borucki scattered one hit and three walks while striking out five batters in five scoreless innings against the West Michigan Whitecaps. The Toronto Blue Jays prospect improved to 8-3 with a 2.45 ERA and 81 strikeouts in 95.2 innings (16 starts) for the Lugnuts this season.
