Kane County Cougars first baseman Austin Byler and Quad Cities River Bandits RHP Elieser Hernandez respectively were named the Midwest League offensive player and pitcher of the week for the period of July 4-10.
In seven games during that period, Byler batted .444 (12-for-27) with two homers, two triples, two doubles, four walks, four runs batted in, and six runs scored. In 39 games this season, the Arizona Diamondbacks prospect is batting .273 with 4 HR and 14 RBI.
During the same stretch, Hernandez made two starts, earning one win while pitching 13 scoreless innings. He struck out 18 batters, walked two, and gave up seven hits. The Houston Astros prospect is 4-2 with a 1.93 ERA, 38 strikeouts and eight walks in 32.2 innings (seven games/five starts) for the River Bandits this season.
