Morrison extends scoreless streak to 28.1 innings

South Bend Cubs pitcher Preston Morrison extended his scoreless streak to 28.1 innings by blanking the Fort Wayne TinCaps for seven innings in South Bend’s 12-2 win Wednesday.

The right-hander got the win, improving to 9-3 with a 2.44 ERA this season. He struck out nine while giving up only three hits and a walk Wednesday.

In 81 innings this season, he has a 73-to-22 strikeouts-to-walks ratio, a 1.14 WHIP, and a .231 opponents batting average.

Morrison recently was named the Chicago Cubs minor-league player of the month for June. He went 4-1 with a 0.83 ERA (three earned runs in 32.2 innings) in five June starts, striking out 26 batters while walking only five.
