Clinton LumberKings RHP Zack Littell and Lake County Captains catcher Francisco Mejia respectively were named the Midwest League pitcher and offensive player of the week for the period of June 6-12.
Littell made two starts during that time, throwing a combined 14 shutout innings. On Tuesday he pitched six innings against the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers, scattering five hits and two walks while striking out eight batters. On Sunday he gave up three hits, walked none, and struck out nine against the Beloit Snappers.
In 13 starts this season, Littell is 5-4 with a 3.04 ERA, 76 strikeouts and 18 walks in 80 innings.
Mejia played in six games during the past week, batting .520 (13-for-25) with 4 HR and 11 RBI. He currently has a 14-game hitting streak. (Teammate Tyler Krieger currently has a 22-game hitting streak, the longest hitting streak in the Midwest League this season.)
In 50 games this season, Mejia is batting .338 with 5 HR and 44 RBI. He recently was named the starting catcher for the Eastern Division team in next week’s Midwest League All-Star Game.
