Burlington Bees second baseman Brendon Sanger and Lake County Captains RHP Matt Esparza respectively were named the Midwest League offensive player and pitcher of the week for the period of May 30 to June 5.

Sanger batted .357 (10-for-28) with three homers and six RBI in his past seven games. He drove in three runs in two different games, and collected three hits in each of his last two games.

In 54 games with the Bees this season, the Los Angeles Angels farmhand is batting .229 with 3 HR and 19 RBI.

Esparza made two starts last week and came away with two wins. Overall he gave up only one earned run on three hits and four walks while striking out 13 batters in 11.2 innings.

The Cleveland Indians prospect is 6-2 with a 3.63 ERA, 61 strikeouts and 13 walks in 57 innings (11 starts) for the Captains this season.

Reid-Foley named to Prospect Team of Week

Lansing Lugnuts RHP Sean Reid-Foley was named to MLB Pipeline’s Prospect Team of the Week for the period of May 31 to June 5. Reid-Foley made two starts during that time, giving up three runs on five hits and one walk while striking out 15 batters in 14 innings.

Here is what MLB.com’s Jim Callis wrote about the Toronto Blue Jays prospect:

Reid-Foley had control issues following a promotion to high Class A last July, so he returned to low Class A in August and went back to that level to begin this season. It might be time for him to get another crack at the Florida State League, because he has issued a total of just two walks while recording three straight quality starts, including two last week. They improved Reid-Foley’s record to 3-3 with a 3.18 ERA overall, and he has a 55/21 K/BB ratio and a .214 opponent average in 51 innings.
