The South Bend Cubs won a pitchers’ duel with the Lansing Lugnuts on Sunday, getting the game’s only run on a homer by Eloy Jimenez to lead off the bottom of the 9th inning.
Each team allowed only three hits. The Cubs walked five and the Lugnuts walked three.
Other than issuing a few walks each, both starting pitchers were excellent. Lugnuts starter Angel Perdomo gave up one hit, walked three, and struck out three in seven scoreless innings. Cubs starter Carson Sands gave up two hits, walked four, and struck out five in six scoreless innings. Both pitchers hit a batter.
Jimenez’s home run extended the Chicago Cubs prospect’s hitting streak to 16 games.
