Two major-league players will begin rehab assignments in the Midwest League on Friday.
Detroit Tigers RHP Shane Greene will start for the West Michigan Whitecaps that day, in an away game versus the Fort Wayne TinCaps. He has been on the disabled list since late April because of a blister on his right middle finger.
It is unknown how long Greene will be with the Whitecaps or on rehab assignment in general, as Tigers manager Brad Ausmus told reporters, “We’ll take it a day at a time.”
It is clearer how long St. Louis Cardinals shortstop Jhonny Peralta will play with the Peoria Chiefs. He is expected to play in five of the first six games on Peoria’s homestand that begins Friday, with Peralta expected to get the day off Sunday.
Peralta underwent surgery for a torn thumb ligament in March.
Neither Greene nor Peralta previously played in the Midwest League.
