Angels add fourth coach to Bees staff

The Los Angeles Angels have added a fourth coach to the staff of their Midwest League affiliate, the Burlington Bees.

Matt Spring, a former catcher and first baseman who played 12 seasons in the minor leagues, joins the coaching staff of Bees manager Adam Melhuse. He was selected by the Tampa Bay Devil Rays in the fourth round of the 2004 draft and played for that organization for seven years. He finished his playing career with a five-year stint in the Boston Red Sox organization, topping out at Triple-A.

Spring played a half-season in the Midwest League, batting .205 with 4 HR and 13 RBI in 48 games with the 2006 Southwest Michigan Devil Rays.

Burlington’s hitting and pitching coaches are Buck Coats and Jairo Cuevas, respectively. You can read about them and Melhuse here.
