Ex-Midwest League pitcher suspended 80 games

Oakland Athletics pitcher Brandon Mann was given an 80-game suspension Tuesday after testing positive for a performance-enhancing substance.

The 31-year-old lefty signed with the A’s in October after spending the 2015 season playing in the American Association, an independent league. He pitched in the Midwest League in 2005, going 10-11 with a 3.81 ERA, 86 strikeouts and 63 walks in 151 IP (27 starts) for the Southwest Michigan Devil Rays. He was drafted by Tampa Bay in 2002.
