The Midwest League Championship Series starts tonight!

The 2015 Midwest League Championship Series begins tonight at West Michigan’s Fifth Third Ballpark. The Eastern Division champion Whitecaps will host the Western Division champion Cedar Rapids Kernels for the first two games of the best-of-five series.

Following an off-day for travel on Friday, Cedar Rapids’ Veterans Memorial Stadium will be the site for the third game and, if necessary, the fourth and fifth games.

The Whitecaps announced who their starting pitchers will be for the first two games, while the Kernels revealed who will take the mound for them in the first three contests.

Game 1 (6:35 p.m. ET) will feature a matchup of Whitecaps RHP Spencer Turnbull and Kernels RHP Felix Jorge. During the regular season, Turnbull went 11-3 with a 3.01 ERA, 106 strikeouts and 52 walks in 116.2 innings (22 starts). Jorge went 6-7 with a 2.79 ERA, 114 strikeouts and 32 walks in 142 innings (23 appearances/22 starts).

Game 2 (6:35 p.m. ET Thursday) will pit Whitecaps RHP A.J. Ladwig against Kernels RHP Sam Gibbons. Ladwig went 12-9 with a 3.59 ERA, 85 strikeouts and 18 walks in 138 innings (22 starts). Gibbons went 7-4 with a 2.89 ERA, 68 strikeouts and 23 walks in 90.1 innings (15 starts).

RHP Keaton Steele will start Game 3 (3:35 p.m. CT Saturday) for the Kernels. He went 7-4 with a 3.41 ERA, 60 strikeouts and 21 walks in 89.2 innings (15 appearances/14 starts). According to Whitecaps beat writer Pete Wallner, West Michigan will send RHP Artie Lewicki, RHP Jeff Thompson, RHP Ross Seaton or RHP Fernando Perez to the mound.

If necessary, Game 4 will begin at 2:05 p.m. CT Sunday and Game 5 will be at 6:35 p.m. CT Monday.

The Whitecaps and the Kernels are affiliated with the Detroit Tigers and the Minnesota Twins, respectively.
