The West Michigan Whitecaps clinched a postseason berth Wednesday thanks to their 1-0 win over the Fort Wayne TinCaps, as well as losses by the South Bend Cubs and the Lake County Captains.
The Whitecaps will face the TinCaps in the first round of the Midwest League playoffs, which begin Wednesday, Sept. 9. Fort Wayne’s magic number is two to clinch the second-half Eastern Division title, which would give the TinCaps homefield advantage in the first round.
The Lansing Lugnuts and the Great Lakes Loons will face each other in the other first-round Eastern Division playoff series, with Lansing having homefield advantage.
In the Western Division playoff series, the Quad Cities River Bandits will have homefield advantage against the Cedar Rapids Kernels, while the Kane County Cougars and the Peoria Chiefs face off. A Kane County win or a Peoria loss clinches the second-half division title and first-round homefield advantage for the Cougars.
