Saturday’s Midwest League game action included three great pitching performances.
In Peoria, Chiefs LHP Austin Gomber struck out 10 while limiting the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers to two hits and two walks in six scoreless innings. He won his 13th straight decision to improve to 14-3 this season. He is 8-0 with a 1.84 ERA since the All-Star break.
Overall this season, the St. Louis Cardinals prospect has a 2.79 ERA, 132 strikeouts and 31 walks in 129 innings (21 starts). He leads the Midwest League in wins and strikeouts, and ranks second in WHIP (0.98).
In Clinton, Cedar Rapids Kernels RHP Sam Gibbons struck out 12 while allowing only one hit and no walks in eight scoreless innings. He took a perfect game into the 6th inning, but LumberKings LF Arby Fields — Clinton’s No. 9 hitter — broke it up by reaching safely on an infield single with two outs.
