The Quad Cities River Bandits’ 12-game winning streak came to an end Sunday with a 3-1 loss to the Dayton Dragons at Modern Woodmen Park.
It was QC’s second 12-game winning streak of the season, and both ended a victory shy of matching the franchise-record 13-game winning streak by the 1979 Quad City Cubs.
The River Bandits scored first, on an RBI groundout by Nick Tanielu in the bottom of the 1st inning. But the Dragons scored a run three times in subsequent innings, including two on solo homers by Narciso Crook and Cory Thompson.
Dragons SP Tejay Antone (6-9, 2.93 ERA) got the win after giving up one unearned run on six hits and two walks in seven innings. He struck out three batters.
River Bandits SP Brock Dykxhoom (6-4, 3.43 ERA) took the loss after giving up two runs on six hits and a walk in seven innings. He struck out eight batters and threw a wild pitch.
Interestingly, Dykxhoom started and lost both games that snapped QC’s 12-game winning streaks this season.
Before Sunday’s loss, the River Bandits hadn’t dropped a game since July 25. It was their first home loss since July 18. Their 74-37 overall record is the best in the Midwest League.
