Lake County Captains first baseman Bobby Bradley and Cedar Rapids Kernels RHP Sam Gibbons respectively were named the Midwest League offensive player and pitcher of the week for the period of July 27-Aug. 2.
In six games, Bradley batted .381 (8-for-21) with four homers, two doubles, nine runs batted in, nine runs scored, six walks, and nine strikeouts. He homered twice and drove in five runs Saturday against the Great Lakes Loons.
Bradley is batting .253 with 18 HR and 58 RBI in 79 games with the Captains.
Gibbons made only one start, but it was a good one. He pitched a nine-inning shutout — a rarity in the Midwest League — striking out nine batters while scattering four hits and a walk. Including that outing against the Kane County Cougars, he now has pitched 21.2 consecutive scoreless innings for the Kernels.
Gibbons, a native of Australia, is 5-2 with a 3.14 ERA, 41 strikeouts and 17 walks in 57.1 innings (10 starts).
