The Detroit Tigers traded LHP David Price to the Toronto Blue Jays for left-handers Daniel Norris, Matt Boyd and Jairo Labourt.
Price won the American League Cy Young Award in 2012, when he went 20-5 with a 2.56 ERA, 205 strikeouts and 59 walks in 211 innings for the Tampa Bay Rays. He was the runner-up for the award in 2010, when he went 19-6 with a 2.72 ERA, 188 strikeouts and 79 walks in 208.2 innings for the Rays. He was traded to the Tigers at the trade deadline last year.
In exchange for Price, the Tigers get a trio of pitching prospects who played for the Lansing Lugnuts. The biggest name of the three is Norris, who was Toronto’s No. 2 draft pick in 2011. He made his major-league debut last year and recorded his first MLB win on April 9th of this year. He went 1-1 with a 3.86 ERA, 18 strikeouts and 12 walks in 23.1 innings (five starts) for the Blue Jays this season.
Norris pitched for the Lugnuts in 2013. He went 1-7 with a 4.20 ERA, 99 strikeouts and 44 walks in 85.2 innings (23 appearances/22 starts).
Boyd briefly pitched for Lansing in 2013, going 0-1 with a 0.64 ERA, 12 strikeouts and one walk in 14 innings (five appearances/three starts). He made his MLB debut on June 27. He made two starts for the Blue Jays before being sent down to Triple-A.
Labourt briefly pitched for the Lugnuts in 2014, posting a 6.43 ERA with 11 strikeouts and 20 walks in 14 innings (six appearances/three starts). He went 2-7 with a 4.59 ERA, 70 strikeouts and 44 walks in 80.1 innings (18 starts) for the High-A Dunedin Blue Jays this season.
Cards trade Kaminsky to Tribe
The St. Louis Cardinals traded LHP Rob Kaminsky to the Cleveland Indians for outfielder/first baseman Brandon Moss.
Kaminsky was one of the Cardinals’ top pitching prospects. He excelled for the Peoria Chiefs last year, going 8-2 with a 1.88 ERA, 79 strikeouts and 31 walks in 100.2 innings (18 starts). He posted similar numbers for the High-A Palm Beach Cardinals this season: 6-5, 2.09 ERA, 79 strikeouts and 28 walks in 94.2 innings (17 starts).
Moss is a nine-year MLB veteran who will be playing for his sixth team since making his MLB debut for the Boston Red Sox in 2007. He batted .217 with 15 HR and 50 RBI in 94 games with the Indians this season.
