A four-run 5th inning that featured three home runs was enough for the Quad Cities River Bandits to beat the Beloit Snappers 4-3 at Pohlman Field on Wednesday.
QC’s three-homer inning was the team’s first since July 22, 2010, against the Bowling Green Hot Rods. The three home runs hit Wednesday were by designated hitter Ryan Bottger (solo), leftfielder Jason Martin (two-run), and third baseman Nick Tanielu (solo).
The Snappers scored first, on a sacrifice fly by catcher Argenis Raga in the bottom of the 1st inning. Raga later hit two doubles, including a ground-rule one that likely would have tied the score 4-4 in the 7th inning had it not bounced over the wall.
The Snappers also scored twice in the bottom of the 5th inning, on back-to-back walks drawn with the bases loaded.
River Bandits RHP Eric Peterson (6-4, 3.15 ERA) got the win in relief after striking out five batters in three scoreless innings. River Bandits rightfielder Drew Ferguson singled in the 5th to extend his hitting streak to 10 games.
