Clinton’s losing streak reached 11 consecutive games when the Beloit Snappers beat the LumberKings 5-1 at Pohlman Field on Monday afternoon.
Snappers RHP Heath Fillmyer (1-9, 6.49 ERA) collected his first win of the season after giving up only one unearned run on four hits, two walks and a wild pitch in six innings. He struck out six batters.
The Snappers have won their last four games.
This is the second time this season Clinton has gone through a losing streak that reached double digits. The LumberKings lost 15 games in a row from May 29 to June 16, tying the Midwest League record for consecutive losses.
Three other Midwest League games were played Monday afternoon. Recaps:
Quad Cities River Bandits 14, Cedar Rapids Kernels 5
Both teams committed three errors, but Quad Cities in particular had plenty of offense to overcome that problem.
Drew Ferguson drove in four runs and Ryan Bottger had three hits, including a home run, for the River Bandits. Alex Bregman also had three hits for Quad Cities.
Tanner English hit a solo homer for the Kernels.
Lansing Lugnuts 9, Great Lakes Loons 6
The Lugnuts got a three-run homer from Juan Kelly, two RBI and a stolen base from Boomer Collins, and a solo homer and two stolen bases from Alex Maldonado in their 9-6 win. Lansing had scored seven runs altogether in its previous three games.
Alex Verdugo hit a solo homer and was one of six Loons players to drive in a run.
West Michigan Whitecaps 4, South Bend Cubs 0
Christin Stewart went 3-for-4 with a run batted in for the Whitecaps. Jeffrey Baez, the reigning MWL offensive player of the week, collected one hit and two stolen bases for the Cubs.
Three West Michigan hurlers — RHP Fernando Perez (4 IP), RHP Trey Teakell (4 IP) and RHP Joe Jimenez (1 IP) — scattered eight hits, walked none, and struck out three batters.
