Bray, Paulino named MWL players of the week

Kane County Cougars CF Colin Bray and Quad Cities River Bandits RHP David Paulino respectively were named the Midwest League offensive player and pitcher of the week for the period of July 6-12.

Bray played in seven games during that period, registering at least one hit in each one. In all, he collected 12 hits, including a home run. He also walked three times, drove in six runs, and scored five times.

Bray is one of only three position players to have been with the Cougars all season. (Infielders Marty Herum and Cody Regis are the others.) He is batting .297 with 2 HR, 30 RBI and 15 SB in 83 games.

Paulino made one start last week, against the Clinton LumberKings on Tuesday. He picked up his first Midwest League victory after striking out eight batters while limiting the LumberKings to five hits and no walks in six scoreless innings. His next start is scheduled for tonight.

In his two starts for the River Bandits, Paulino is 1-1 with a 1.80 ERA, 12 strikeouts and one walk in 10 innings. He previously made two starts for the short-season Tri-City ValleyCats this season.

Ferrell takes no-hitter into 8th

River Bandits RHP Justin Ferrell took a no-hitter into the 8th inning Sunday and got the win when Quad Cities held on for a 3-2 win over the Burlington Bees. He gave up two runs on two hits and four walks, and struck out four batters, in 7.1 innings.

At West Michigan, Bowling Green RHP Chris Pike collected his 8th win of the season as the Hot Rods downed the Whitecaps, 5-2. He gave up two runs (one earned) on two hits and a walk while striking out four batters in seven innings.

McBroom goes 6-for-6

Lugnuts first baseman Ryan McBroom tied a Midwest League record by registering six hits in Lansing’s 10-9 loss to the Dayton Dragons on Sunday. You can read about his stellar performance here.

Federowicz begins MWL rehab stint

San Diego Padres catcher Tim Federowicz began his rehab stint with the Fort Wayne TinCaps on Sunday, going 1-for-4 with an RBI double. He was the team’s designated hitter.

He is scheduled to play catcher and bat third for the TinCaps tonight.
