This year’s No. 2 overall draft pick, Alex Bregman, began his professional baseball career Friday with the Quad Cities River Bandits.

The Houston Astros prospect played his first series in Cedar Rapids, collecting a hit in each of three games. On Sunday he hit his first home run, a solo shot off Kernels RHP Zach Tillery. He also stole a base in Sunday’s game.

The shortstop batted .323 with 9 HR, 49 RBI and 38 SB as a junior at Louisiana State University during the recently-completed college season.
