LumberKings tie MWL record for consecutive losses

The Clinton LumberKings tied the Midwest League record for consecutive losses Sunday when they lost both games of a doubleheader to the Fort Wayne TinCaps.

The LumberKings have now lost 15 consecutive games, something done by only three other Midwest League teams. The first MWL team to lose that many games in a row was the 1958 Clinton Pirates. The mark was later matched by the 1975 Cedar Rapids Giants and the 1986 Kenosha Twins.

Clinton’s last win was on May 28 when the LumberKings beat the Chiefs 11-8 in Peoria. Clinton’s next game is Monday evening at Fort Wayne.

Torres has 5-hit game for Cubs

South Bend Cubs shortstop Gleyber Torres collected five hits, including his first home run of the season, and drove in three runs Sunday.

Torres is batting .319 with 35 RBI in 55 games this season.
