Gilbert, Mahle named MWL players of the week

Beloit Snappers 2B Trent Gilbert and Dayton Dragons RHP Tyler Mahle respectively were named the Midwest League offensive player and pitcher of the week for the period of June 1-7.

In six games during that period, Gilbert batted .444 (12-for-27) with five doubles, a home run, nine runs batted in, and eight runs scored. Eight of his hits came in the first three games of the week.

Gilbert is batting .312 with 3 HR and 29 RBI in 48 games with the Snappers this season.

In his only start during the specified period, Mahle dominated the Clinton LumberKings, giving up only two hits and a walk in seven scoreless innings. He struck out eight and hit a batter.

Mahle is 5-3 with a 2.63 ERA, 62 strikeouts and nine walks in 11 starts (65 IP) for the Dragons this season. He is among the pitchers selected for the Midwest League All-Star Game to be played Tuesday, June 23, at Peoria’s Dozer Park.
