Perdomo, Balaguert named MWL players of the week

Peoria Chiefs RHP Luis Perdomo and South Bend Cubs OF/1B Yasiel Balaguert respectively were named the Midwest League pitcher and offensive player of the week for the period of May 25-31.

Perdomo made one start during that period, holding the Kane County Cougars to three hits and three walks in eight scoreless innings Friday. He struck out nine batters in the 5-0 Chiefs win.

In eight starts this season, Perdomo is 2-4 with a 1.48 ERA, 52 strikeouts and 18 walks in 48.2 innings. In the 11 starts he made for the Chiefs last season, he went 3-6 with a 5.05 ERA, 41 strikeouts and 21 walks in 57 innings.

Balaguert played in five games during the past week, batting .650 (13-for-20) with three home runs, two doubles, five runs batted in, and six runs scored. His batting average increased 70 points, from .225 to .295. He has four homers and 25 RBI in 32 games this season.

Balaguert spent most of the 2014 season in the Midwest League, batting .252 with 7 HR and 53 RBI in 93 games with the Kane County Cougars. He also played 39 games with the 2012 Peoria Chiefs, hitting .208 with one homer and 18 RBI.
