Reyes connects for walk-off homer on Lego Night

I don’t know if the song “Everything is Awesome” was played after Friday’s game at Parkview Field, but it certainly would have been appropriate for Fort Wayne fans to hear after the TinCaps won on a walk-off homer in extra innings.

For those who don’t know, “Everything is Awesome” is the hit song from “The Lego Movie,” and “Lego Night” was the theme at the TinCaps game. The team wore special Lego-themed jerseys that were auctioned off in the ballpark and online, with proceeds benefiting Little People Matter, a non-profit organization that is raising funds to help build water wells in Africa. (The jersey auction netted $4,983.)

The game itself lasted 12 innings, ending in a 5-4 win for the TinCaps. They and the visiting West Michigan Whitecaps each scored four runs by the middle of the 4th inning, then went scoreless until Franmil Reyes hit the first pitch in the bottom of the 12th over the leftfield wall for a walk-off homer. You can watch video of it here.

Overall, Reyes went 3-for-6 with a home run, a double, and two runs batted in. Teammate Nick Torres also went 3-for-6 with a pair of runs batted in. Michael Gerber and Will Kengor each had three hits for the Whitecaps.
