Jorge strikes out 10 as Kernels improve to 5-0

The Cedar Rapids Kernels extended their season-opening winning streak to five games after beating the Beloit Snappers 9-0 Monday.

Kernels SP Felix Jorge was dominant, giving up only two hits and two walks while striking out 10 batters in seven scoreless innings. He was backed up offensively by SS Nick Gordon and RF Max Murphy, who each had three hits; 2B Pat Kelly, who doubled and hit a 3-run homer; and 1B Tyler Kuresa, who singled and hit a 2-run homer.

Snappers SP Junior Mendez gave up eight runs on 13 hits, including two home runs, in 3.1 innings. He struck out six batters.
