The Kane County Cougars recently announced that “Raging Cougar Ale,” a craft beer specially made for the team by Two Brothers Brewing Company, will be on tap at Fifth Third Bank Ballpark this year.

In a press release from the Cougars, the beer was described as “a light and hoppy pale ale, golden in color with a nutty, caramel malt flavor.” The name was selected by fans from three choices: Raging Cougar Ale, Home Run Ale, and Grand Slam Ale.

In addition to Fifth Third Bank Ballpark, Raging Cougars Ale will be available at two locations in nearby Illinois suburbs: the Two Brothers Tap House in Warrenville and Round House in Aurora. It also will be on tap at Chase Field, home of the Arizona Diamondbacks (Kane County’s parent club), and Two Brothers’ new Tap House and Brewery Restaurant in Scottsdale, Arizona. (The Diamondbacks’ spring training facility, Salt River Fields at Talking Stick, is located in Scottsdale.)

The Cougars currently are the only Midwest League team with its own branded beer. (Read this post for info about “Base Brau,” an Appleton Foxes-branded beer made by Stevens Point Brewery in the late 1970s and early 1980s.) Kane County is believed to be the only Minor League Baseball team with a branded beer available at the ballpark of its MLB affiliate.

Ring replica giveaway planned

Count this among the cooler promotional giveaways in the Midwest League this year: a replica of the Cougars’ 2014 Midwest League championship ring. The first 1,500 fans through the ballpark gates on Thursday, June 4, will get one. (Read about the ring’s design here.)

The Cougars — affiliated with the Chicago Cubs last year — finished the 2014 season with a 98-49 record (including their 7-0 run in the Midwest League playoffs). They had a .650 winning percentage in the regular season and a .666 winning percentage overall — the best across all levels of affiliated baseball last year.
