Former Clinton LumberKings pitcher Victor Sanchez was severely injured in a boating accident Friday and had to undergo surgery to repair his fractured skull, according to reports.
The Seattle Mariners prospect reportedly was swimming at a beach in his native country, Venezuela, when he was struck in the head by a boat. He reportedly underwent surgery on his skull Saturday afternoon and remained hospitalized Sunday.
Sanchez went 6-6 with a 2.78 ERA and 79 strikeouts in 113.1 IP for the 2013 LumberKings. He pitched a no-hitter against the Lansing Lugnuts, striking out eight batters and walking none, on July 17, 2013.
He spent the 2014 season pitching in Double-A, going 7-6 with a 4.19 ERA and 97 strikeouts in 124.2 IP for the Jackson Generals of the Southern League.
