The Los Angeles Dodgers announced this afternoon that 2014 Great Lakes Loons skipper Bill Haselman will manage the high-A Rancho Cucamonga Quakes instead of returning to the Midwest League as previously announced.
The move comes after 2014 Quakes manager P.J. Forbes announced his retirement last week. Haselman previously was slated to return as Loons skipper this year, so today’s move creates a managerial vacancy at Great Lakes. Former big-leaguers Jay Gibbons and Glenn Dishman will still serve as the Loons’ hitting and pitching coaches, respectively.
This will be Haselman’s third time managing in the California League. He was skipper of the Bakersfield Blaze in 2010 and the Inland Empire 66ers in 2012 and 2013.
Haselman’s pitching and hitting coaches at Rancho Cucamonga previously served in those capacities for the Loons. Pitching coach Bill Simas was with Great Lakes the past two seasons, and hitting coach Mike Eylward was with the Loons in 2013.
