Kane County Cougars teammates Kyle Schwarber and Daury Torrez were respectively named the Midwest League offensive player and pitcher of the week for the period of June 23-29.
In six games during that period, Schwarber went 9-for-22 with three doubles, three home runs, seven runs batted in, eight runs scored, and five walks. His week included a game in which he went 4-for-5 with 2 HR and 5 RBI.
The catcher/outfielder was the top draft pick of the Chicago Cubs this year and is batting .481 with 8 HR and 19 RBI in 15 games split between the Cougars and the short-season Boise Hawks.
In his only start last week, Torrez pitched eight shutout innings against the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers. He allowed five hits and no walks while striking out seven batters.
Torrez, a right-handed pitcher, is 8-3 with a 3.14 ERA and 45 strikeouts in 80.1 IP for the Cougars this season.
