Back-to-back home runs by Conrad Gregor and Tyler White helped the Quad Cities River Bandits beat the Cedar Rapids Kernels 5-2 at Modern Woodmen Park on Saturday.

The 6th-inning dingers went to opposite fields, and a fan caught Gregor’s home run on the fly. I couldn’t help but smile while watching the man jump around excitedly after his great catch. As it turned out (as reported by Steve Batterson of the Quad-City Times), the guy was excited for good reason — he is Gregor’s father!

What a great moment.

There almost was another home run that inning, but Cedar Rapids RF Chad Christensen appeared to rob James Ramsey of a four-bagger on a jumping catch that, minimally, stole an extra-base hit from the Quad Cities leadoff man.

River Bandits SP Jandel Gustave turned in a solid performance, giving up two runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out eight batters in 6.2 IP. His record improved to 4-2.
