Harper edges Miley for NL Rookie of the Year Award

Washington Nationals OF Bryce Harper was named National League Rookie of the Year, edging out former South Bend Silver Hawks LHP Wade Miley for the award.

Harper batted .270 with 22 HR, 59 RBI and 18 SB in 139 games. He received 112 votes (16 first-place) for the award, besting Miley’s 105 votes (12 first-place).

Miley went 16-11 with a 3.33 ERA and 144 strikeouts in 194.2 IP for the Arizona Diamondbacks. In 21 games with the 2009 Silver Hawks, he went 5-9 with a 4.12 ERA and 91 strikeouts in 113.2 IP.

Cincinnati Reds utility player Todd Frazier finished third in the voting. He batted .273 with 19 HR and 67 RBI in 128 games. He played in 36 games with the Dayton Dragons in 2007-08, batting .321 with 9 HR and 25 RBI.

Los Angeles Angels OF Mike Trout was named American League Rookie of the Year.
