Rangers manager inducted into AFL Hall of Fame

Texas Rangers manager Ron Washington was inducted Friday into the Arizona Fall League Hall of Fame.

Washington served as a hitting coach during the AFL’s first two seasons, for the 1992 Sun Cities Solar Sox and the 1993 Tucson Javelinas. He is best known as a former major-league infielder (mostly with the Minnesota Twins) and as the manager who led the Rangers to back-to-back World Series appearances in 2010 and 2011.

Washington played two seasons in the Midwest League, with the Waterloo Royals in 1972 and 1973. He hit .228 with 1 HR, 30 RBI and 42 SB in 76 games in 1972; the next season, he hit .277 with 6 HR, 34 RBI and 16 SB.
