I read earlier that St. Louis Cardinals prospect Kolten Wong arrived at spring training today, which reminded me of this “fact” that would often appear on the scoreboard when the Hawaii native was batting at Modern Woodmen Park last year:
No word whether Wong rode a canoe to Florida, but he’s probably so excited for his first big-league training camp that he feels like he has enough energy to do so.
Wong was the Cardinals’ top draft pick in 2011. In the second half of last season, Wong was a key contributor to the Quad Cities River Bandits team that ended up winning the Midwest League Championship Series. He hit .335 with five homers, 25 RBI and nine stolen bases in 47 games.
