TinCaps grounds crew named best in league this year

With rain suspending Game 1 of the American League Division Series between the Detroit Tigers and the New York Yankees tonight, this seems like an appropriate time to give a hat tip to the Fort Wayne TinCaps grounds crew, who won the 2011 Midwest League Grounds Crew of the Year Award.

The award winner is chosen by Midwest League field managers and umpires, who judge each playing field on the following criteria: quality of playing surface, infield/outfield turf, preparation of field, and quality of pitching mounds, home plate, bullpens and warning track.

Keith Winter is the head groundskeeper and Rob Dworkin is the assistant groundskeeper for the TinCaps.
