LumberKings beat Kernels 2-0; Cougars’ Billo dominates Chiefs

I went to Midwest League ballpark #12 Wednesday night: Alliant Energy Field, home of the Clinton LumberKings. The LumberKings beat the Cedar Rapids Kernels 2-0. Taijuan Walker, ranked by Baseball America as the 4th-best prospect in the Seattle Mariners system and the 38th-best prospect overall in the minor leagues, got the win.

I have a lot to write about the Alliant Energy Field experience and I’m a bit tired, so I’m going to save the details for my next blog post. However, I want to note something else quickly before I sign off for the night.

Kane County Cougars RHP Greg Billo continued his dominance of Midwest League batters Wednesday, taking a perfect game into the 6th inning against the Peoria Chiefs. Billo (9-2) lowered his league-best ERA to 1.40 and his WHIP to 0.95 (second-best in the league).

I mention this not only because Billo’s accomplishment deserves attention, but also because it is a great excuse to use one of my favorite photos from this summer again.

Cougars RHP Greg Billo warms up in the visitors bullpen at Modern Woodmen Park late last month.
