George Spelius, president of the Midwest League for the past 25 years, was given a contract extension today to remain in that position through the end of 2014. Here is the league’s press release about it:
The Board of Directors of the Midwest League of Professional Baseball Clubs, Inc., voted unanimously to grant President George H. Spelius a 26-month term extension that will run through December 31, 2014.
“It is a privilege and honor to serve as Midwest League President. I am extremely proud of our league and its 16 member teams. I look forward to supporting their continued successes throughout the next two years.”
Spelius has held the position of MWL President since 1987.
Spelius is one of the founding fathers of the Midwest League’s Beloit franchise, which began in 1982 as the Beloit Brewers (now the Beloit Snappers) and continues to operate now as a community-owned franchise. In 1997 and 2010, he was honored by Minor League Baseball as recipient of the Warren Giles Award for outstanding service as a league president.
