Lutz named AFL Player of the Week

Donald Lutz listens to Dragons manager Delino DeShields at third base during a game in Dayton last year.

Cincinnati Reds prospect Donald Lutz was named the Arizona Fall League’s Player of the Week after the former Dayton Dragon led the AFL in hitting (.556) and slugging percentage (.833) and tied for the lead in runs scored (five) last week.

His most impressive game of the week was on Friday when he went 3-for-4 with 2 RBI for the Peoria Javelinas, finishing a triple shy of the cycle. (Fun fact: I saw Lutz hit for the cycle against the Peoria Chiefs in Dayton on July 21, 2011.)

Lutz hit .301 with 20 HR and 75 RBI in 123 games with the 2011 Dayton Dragons.
