The streak is over.
The Lansing Lugnuts (7-1) lost their first game of the season last night at Fifth Third Ballpark, home of their cross-state rivals, the West Michigan Whitecaps. The Lugnuts didn’t go down quietly in the 5-4 loss, as Carlos Perez hit a two-out triple in the top of the 9th inning before being stranded there to end the game.
I wasn’t at the game, but I’m sure everyone there was on the edge of their seats throughout what was an exciting, back-and-forth game. Even Whitecaps mascot Crash was interested in watching the on-field activity late in the game, as seen in this Instagram photo by Whitecaps fan Beth Heinen Bell:
Three Whitecaps players hit home runs in the game, including 18-year-old Danry Vasquez, who slugged a long, two-run shot to give West Michigan the lead in the bottom of the 8th inning.
The two teams go at it again at 1 p.m. EST today.
